List of excuses:

too much water
not enough water
colder than normal
hotter than normal

Whatever temperature or water level they have each year is always above or below normal so that prices can mysteriously rise when they choke the supply.

I'm not one to be confrontational, but the reality is farmers have a commodity that is well liked and therefore always has a demand. If you could make more money for less quantity every person in their right mind would do it; unless you are just stupid when it comes to business. Farmers are just like gasoline prices, everyone is going to buy them, so why not drive the price up and make more profit at the price point customers are willing to pay.

I know I would do the same if I ran my own crawfish business. Wouldn't you?

Just to clarify, I do not agree with them receiving substitutes from the federal government because of a "bad" season. That is the nature of their industry and they should be able to ride the highs and deal with the lows.
