Has anyone rooted it and put a rom on it?

If so, did it improve the lag in the tablet?

Custom Roms almost always run smoother than stock. Just go to the XDA forums and follow the discussion.

Actually it's super easy to install cyanagen for a test run. You don't have to be rooted or unlocked. Just follow the steps on their website.

Good way to try a custom ROM.

FYI cyan is what I'm using on my n7 which was unusable with lollipop. I'm using 444 KitKat cyan however because it's stable and fast and lag disappeared. The lag on the n7 with lollipop was unbearable. Horrible. I don't think lollipop is ready for tablets yet but you might try the cyan lollipop ROM and see if it's smoother than stock.

Eta here. It's impossible to mess up:

how to install cyanogen

Eta2 Google apps are not included so you'll have to grab gmail etc from the play store after installing cyan.

Eta3 cyan includes a performance setting where you can disable some of the transitions etc and that also helped. Honestly I can't tell a bit of difference visually with them off. I need the n7 to be reliable and responsive and it is now.

It's been a godsend doing walkthroughs on the house and making notes and measurements.

Ever since I had my n7 i had a custom ROM installed on it, but when the official lollipop came out I flashed the factory rom back on it.

What I might end up doing is re rooting it and flash CM 12 on it and sell it on eBay.

Take that money with a little I have saved and get a n9.
