I think you could shorten the NBA season to 65 games and it would make the product even better.

The first year I really got into the NBA was the strike shortened season. I liked it

I have long been a proponent of this. Sloughing off about 20 games would greatly reduce the back to backs and other wacky scheduling, while still giving teams time to gel and weather an injury or two if need be.
And you could do this without touching one of the greatest pieces of sporting theater on the planet in the NBA playoffs.
