Picking a school solely based on a coach always has been and will continue to be poor decision making on these kid's part.

I feel terrible for them that they've basically been lied to, but they should be wary of this going in.

No one picks a school SOLELY bc of a coach but it's definitely a huge factor. You should know this man. You got nick Saban

It's not ethical if a coach omits material information to a kid. If a kid says that his relationship is important to him in picking a school than the coach owes that kid the information from an ethical standpoint. Sometimes an ethical standard isn't enforceable though. Unfortunately these kids don't always have a good guide for them in the process.

As much as I love Tennessee, I couldn't imagine picking them during the Dooley era. Now imagine he's hired after your previous coach is fired. The coach matters no matter how much you love a school.
