LSU Softball Preview 2015 Season

Its an exciting time, as the softball season begins for LSU tomorrow. This is without doubt Beth's most talented team she has had. We return the majority of our starters from last year. This year we have more depth, particularly at the pitching position.
Projected Starters
C-Kloss/Jaquish (Will alternate)
DH- (Jaquish or Kloss)
1B- Sandra Simmons-Junior
2B- Constance Quinn-Sophomore
SS- Bianka Bell- Junior
3B- Bourg- Freshman
LF- Emily Griggs- Freshman
CF- AJ Andrews- Senior
RF- Bailey Landry-Sophomore
The pitching rotation will be crazy, but in a good way.
Corbello will always be the Friday starter
We have Kelsee Selman who throws a very good rise ball, has improved a lot over the off season
Allison Walljapser- True freshman and HS All American out of California- she will be a very special player no doubt and will be a fan favorite. She is a versatile pitcher
Carley Hoover- A freshman transfer out of Stanford. She has a lot of velocity on her pitches. She brings something different. A tremendous addition to this staff
The Pitching Staff could be one the best in the entire country. Our depth is unbelievable. Will see improvement from last year.
Hitting- Hitting has improved ever year. Last year had the second highest avg in LSU softball history, hitting.314 with 65 homeruns (Most in School History) I expect more improvement this year with the development and addition of a few new faces.
Players to WATCH!
Sydney Bourg- She will likely see a lot of action at 3rd Base, while her defensive abilities are a little questionable. Her bat will be an upgrade to Wray from last year. She brings power and has speed.
Emily Griggs- Probably one most talented hitters to come out of HS- She will likely be leading off behind Andrews. She will be a .300 hitter, still is developing power but she puts the ball in play. MAJOR MAJOR upgrade offensively.
Walljasper/Hoover/Selman- The sky is the limit with this group. One of these players will step up and claim the number 2 role. Will be very competitive all season.
Areas of concern-
Pitching- Free passes, Corbello needs to cut down all the walks and passes she gave up last season. If she can manage to do that then we will be in great shape.
Infield Defense- Bianka Bell has had her struggles at SS, she needs to limit the amount of errors. Quinn and Bourg will likely be the new faces. Wray was an excellent defender, there will be a drop off, but the question is how much.
I expect this group to finish in the Top 3 in the SEC, should finish top 12-15 Nationally. If we can establish consistency, this group will likely be able to reach the CWS. The sky really is the limit, although there are many question marks. We currently have the number 9 recruiting class for 2016 everyone, so more talent is on the way.
Schedule- Presents lots of challenging opponents out of conference, we play Notre Dame, Arizona, Cal State Fullerton, and Oklahoma. We have our work cut out for us but Torina always has her group ready to play. Should be a terrific season. I will eventually break down the class of 2016,

Who are going to be the power hitters on the team?

Thanks for the preview! I didn't know we picked up the Stanford transfer ( Hoover) but sure gives us a lot of pitching depth! Hope we have a great season!!

This was great, thanks.
Who figures to be the cream of the crop in the SEC this year?

From everything I have seen and heard, Jaquish has been given the 3rd base job to take and run with with Kloss catching most of the time.

I wouldn't even go that far. Torina has said that she will do a lot of pitching based on match ups and what not. I get the idea that all of the pitchers will see action in various roles. I wouldn't be surprised if by conference play that one of the pitchers besides Corbello becomes a "relief specialist".
For all of the old-schoolers who think that softball is a bunch of 1-0 games and that you only need one pitcher, you are outdated. Offense in softball is as good as it has ever been. Having 4 great pitchers will be a HUGE advantage.

It's really gonna suck after LSU loses back 2 back games saturday and sunday

Hope they reach their potential. Good luck to the 9th ranked Lady Cajuns softball team also.

I think Bourg started 0 games at 3B this weekend. Jaquish will play 3B when she isn't catching w/Kreamer filling in. That backup spot could change unless someone can secure the spot. That said, Jaquish isn't coming out of the lineup, and Walljasper is probably the #2 DP hitter due to her power as well.
