I doubt things are about to "get real". But one thing that history has taught us is that when great powers are put into desperate situations oftentimes they will resort to desperate measures. While unlikely at this point, it is not impossible that as things deteriorate in Russia, they eventually take the desperate step of striking west to reclaim their former possessions in Eastern Europe.
