People are too nosy these days. The only person I would tell what I make would be my spouse or if I was trying to get a new job.

I don't really see a reason to tell anyone else.

It starts with companies. They don't want employees discussing salary because it can lead to low moral and tension among employees. That carries over to the home IMO.

I make $85k. I'm a DoD employee so it's a matter of public record anyway. Not great for my chosen profession but more than enough for me.

I'm 35 and still don't know how much my parents make. Maybe I'll ask them one day.

It's not that it's taboo for family to talk about it, but since kids generally don't understand the concept, it doesn't do any good to tell them you make 10K a month, but they can't have a 60 cent candy bar
