That's a little different than throwing to a cornerback that may or may not be really injured, and who has already picked you off earlier in the game. Deion Sanders is a prime example. He's admitted that he would feign injury to try to get QBs to throw the ball his way since they never would under normal circumstances.

In the example you just used, Peyton Manning is actively demonstrating that he couldn't pass.

Sherman was wincing like he just got punched in the ball and couldn't even extend his arm out. That would be actively demonstrating that he won't be able to do what he is best at, which is being physical

By that logic, they shouldn't have changed their defense because Peyton manning might've been just playing up the injury. Doesn't make any sense
