Coming from the guy who just bought a stainless rifle.
I would go stainless. More durable.
ETA: I'm all about wood and blued if it's a nice weapon that looks really good, but for a ruger .22, stainless all day.

This is a cheap gun that he should spend as little as possible to get into a real gun
