People just don't think about stuff like that. People also wander off the trail and end up with a broken femur stranded on the side of the mountain or worse. There have been deaths on Camelback from people wandering off and falling off mountain. Same for other Phoenix mountains. Hiking is fun and all...but you just need to use some commonsense.
They also just recently had a 21 year ASU female student die nearby as well in some rappelling accident. She was cute too.
