not trying to offend, but to me, it's mostly noise. are there any outstanding musicians/singers from this genre of "music?"

It's music without soul. So no, it's not music because it's absent of the very thing that makes music great.

It's absolutely music.

Why wouldn't it be?

The overwhelming majority is created electronically which has no emotion or humanistic nature to it. That can be saved if there is a strong vocal performance but none of them can sing either. It may have heart, but it doesnt have soul and you need both to make music.

It is music, but the people performing/created the sound to the computer generated beats are not musicians or true music artist.

So music created electronically is not music? Early classical composers using electronics were not creating music?

Of course there is emotion. I've never listened to Boards of Canada and not felt emotion.

It's hilarious to me that people think it's harder to play some power chords than it is to make an album like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But just because they're playing a guitar...it's music

I see this thread went exactly how I'd assume it would on this board

answer: yes, it's music. And holy shite yes it does contain 'soul' (idk what that posters definition of soul is, but his description is hysterical)

just because it's not appealing to you, doesn't mean it's not music. I don't like the sound of heavy metal (

I love reading ignorant responses about hip hop music.

They are almost as entertaining as jamband threads.

Some of it is music. It's the part that they "sample"(ripoff) from actual talented artists and musicians. Not surprisingly, many times it's the hook or chorus that people sing along to.

I love the Doggystyle record, but it's because it's basically a 70s funk record. "Sampled" funk songs are the entire album. Same for The Chronic

Having created music on both mediums, I can tell you it's much harder on guitar. It sometimes takes years to become proficient enough on guitar to write quality stuff. With the computer software it really only takes a few days.

It's really the difference between pushing a button that instantly produces a lasagna or making a lasagna from scratch. One could call themselves a cook, the other could not

It's definitely not automatically harder on guitar. It's a lot easier to play power chords than to make a great electronic piece or beat. Just as it's a lot easier to make a bad beat than play a complicated guitar piece. But it's all making music.
