This dude was mega talented in HS and had a major injury at LSU. He worked hard to get where he is. I hope it all works out for him. Cool dude irl...met him.

No doubt , effort is not in question. If the guy does make it in the NFL seems like he would be an awesome locker room presence.

This. His collegiate career was negated by a spinal injury in a high school game.

Very excited about Chip (Delvin Breaux) signing with the saints. Was a good friend of mine in college. He is an even better person. Has a load of talent and a good head on him.

Here's a really good write up on him from The Advocate after signing with us.....

Out of football for 6 years before signing with the Saints, Delvin Breaux never stopped believing

That makes it sound a lil' more of a miracle than it is. He was playing flag football, still practicing with LSU, playing arena football, and Canadian football during that 6 year period.

Still, hope this is only the start of his journey.

Thanks to everyone posting links in the thread. I remembered the name from years ago, but didn't know the story.

I'm thrilled for the guy and I hope he's successful.

So can we talk about the actual football move yet or is everyone still having their moment in the sun over the story?

I really have a felling that he's gonna turn out to be really good. If he would not have got hurt, he was a 5 star recruit in high school. Now that he has his chance I dont think he's going to take it lightly.

regardless of his stars, i hope he has something to offer. no risk for the saints really. if he pans out great if not oh well. i just wish they'd stop bringing in players that look like projects

John Murphy is a longtime football scout who is based out of Metairie and keeps close tabs on the Saints.

Murphy said the first thing that stands out with Breaux (6 foot 1, 196 pounds) is that he’s a “big, physical kid,” which more and more NFL teams have started to look for in their cornerbacks.

quote:

Saints signee Delvin Breaux, the best corner in the CFL last season, brings size to the position.

“He’s tall, long arms, was willing to play physical in our league,” Murphy said of Breaux, a New Orleans native who made a remarkable comeback after breaking three vertebrae in his back while playing for McDonogh 35 Senior High School in 2006.

quote:

“If they’re scheming it a certain way and putting [Breaux] in the right position, he has the skill set to do some of the things that they’ve been asking [veteran cornerback] Patrick Robinson and other guys to do,” Murphy said. “Guys who may seem like they’re faster or more quick-twitch athletic than Breaux, but haven’t had the success with being physical on a regular basis, which is what it seems like the Saints want.”

quote:

Breaux also won a head-to-head battle in the playoffs against another CFL standout who has received heavy attention from NFL teams – receiver Duron Carter, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter. Carter called Breaux the best cornerback in the CFL after being held to three catches for 25 yards.

Scouting Report

Really seems like this kid has a lot of promise....
