Would they have ever become a jam band?

Marinate on that for a minute. An entire genre that's fundamentally predicated on the absence of talent. Good thing nobody here is into that kind of music.

Rare. I would have said impossible, but anything's possible I suppose.

And the Allman Brothers aren't a "jam band" in the classic sense of the term, imo. They write great songs.

Well, there can be virtuosity in musicianship in jam bands. That's cool. After about the first 20 minutes, though, I get bored. I do like well crafted songs.

Grateful Dead wrote some pretty awesome songs. I always thought their songwriting was what set them apart

Of course you post this as soon as the prominent jam band posters have left for a new board.Pu**y.

Only because "jam band" wasn't a phrase while they were in their prime. In recent times they have toured with jam bands on most tours. They are definitely a part of that "scene" or whatever you want to call it

I prefer not. It's the music that moves you, not the lyrics.

"prominent jam band posters."

I have no idea what that means, but it made me laugh.

It's not just songwriting. How many riffs by jam bands do you think are instantly recognizable by a decent size segment of the public?

How do you define something lacking form or coherence?*

*And enough talent to create a decent song. Did I already mention that?

Yea, a band with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks isn't a jam band.

They have Mountain Jam that takes up 35 minutes of the Eat a Peach record. They also have numerous 20/30 minute songs.

Allman Brothers is a Blues Rock Jam Band. So, there's your answer. Allman Brothers is a great jam band with great songwriting.
