They are basically using a hybrid framework from the NFL. It is socialistic as hell and it attempts to ensure all clubs can be operational year in and year out. Without significant TV revenue, they have to slowly implement the changes. You can't just go straight to unrestricted FA and just watch MLS just flounder in 2 years. The balance is necessary, but they have to also make sure the players are getting a piece of the pie.

Thats why I said they are playing with fire. But not all the MLS clubs make profit. I'm pretty sure 5 or 6 operate at a loss.

Thats not going to happen anytime soon to make the league a top 5 by 2022

But this isn't the Cosmo days. The league does have a much better foundation and investment. The more ownership groups like TFC's the better

I just want to see MLS flourish and I agree the salaries for the rank and file are a pittance. We will get there if the owners and players are somewhat on the same page about future growth. That part is getting trickier when you are paying Jozy, Giovinco, and Bradley approx. 18m total and yet the rest of your team are living paycheck to paycheck. I'd bet they double the cap for this upcoming CBA. We are talking $2 m extra. 100k more per player. You can't tell me if you are TFC you can't afford this when you 18 mil tied up on 3 players.
