Coaches' evaluations don't always line up with those of recruiting sites. Remember Christine Michael, the RB at A&M? He was a 5 star on Rivals but LSU and Florida both passed on him.

Tennessee has 7 defensive lineman (all either 4 or 5 star) remaining in their class. Doesn't appear to be any more to the story than that. It's awesome for us for two reasons: 1) we have a need on the dline 2) bad reputation for Tennessee in recruiting if they make a habit of pulling scholarships

He was one of the "Risers" according to Rivals:

LINK

"After winning the defensive line MVP award at Rivals Camp Series Miami, Ford went from off the radar to a high three-star. But after a week at Under Armour that saw him consistently beat four-star offensive linemen in practice and in the actual game, it was clear that he belonged in the Rivals250. Ford is an edge rusher with great athleticism and even though he doesn't have ideal size, he makes up for it with his speed and strength." -- Wommack
