Im assuming you included hockey since college hockey outdraws college baseball.
But the same is said for MLB which is still considered "more popular" than College football based on polls and total attendance. It's a far second behind NFL.
ETA: The most recent stats I could find. Hockey is even more recent. You can do the totals yourself if you like.

According to those numbers... LSU got 150k more fans than the closest hockey school, Wisconsin. Also, Wisconsin averaged over 1,000 per game more.

That's part of it too. In places like the South where hockey isn't popular, most schools don't even have a team. Almost every school has baseball though, even if it's not a big draw.
