The whole thing is a little odd. Not just because of the money, but because of the player involved. This is a first for MLS. Most, if not all, of these huge contracts the league has signed on for in the past have been for players who were either European stars nearing the end, or to bring an American player home. No one in America knows who the hell Sebastian Giovinco is.

That's definitely what makes it so weird. 7 mill for Dempsey/Bradley might've still made us squint, but from a marketing perspective you might be able to say it's worth it.
But even most avid soccer fans in the US have no idea who this guy is. I only just learned how to pronounce his name properly today (Tip: Gio in his name sounds like "joe" not "gee-o"
