Jacob Hester disagrees about being a senior. I'm sure the rules get changed as it becomes convenient though.

The tradition really started after Hester left and ever since then it's been an academic senior. So while yes they can change the "rules", it doesn't mean they will. Especially now when we have a few seniors that are quite deserving of the award.
