Okay but yours is a free floated direct gas system with what looks like a thicker barrel than the tacticool M1A in the OP. it can work with the right system but from what I've read, most people barely get 4-5 MOA at 100 with the SOCOM. I just don't get the point. 18" is my bare minimum for a .308 and that would only be for a bolt rifle or free floated AR.

Ruger GSR is a 16" bolt-action and, as already stated, short barrel has very little if any penalty on accuracy with good ammo. What you've read probably didn't talk about ammo selection or the talent behind the trigger. 2 MOA ammo with a 2 MOA shooter isn't going to produce good results no matter what.

the M1A is a proven design that is nearly bulletproof and next to zero maintenance. The only downside is that it's heavy as shite which the SOCOM model addresses as best it can

the only thing "tacticool" about it is the rail system, which addresses the difficulty in mounting optics on the original design

what you get is a semi auto in 308 without the AR platform maintenance requirements and to me, it's more comfortable to shoulder, shoot and carry
