I'm not a gunsmith, but I've worked on the triggers of some of my own guns; I've never felt comfortable cutting coils off a trigger spring. I'd rather buy a replacement spring than cut springs. If you have a modicum of tinkering skills and are careful, there're usually a few things a gun owner can do to help his trigger.
