I bought a sandalwood soap, and I hated the smell. I had heard people like it.

Yeah - I had used the Col Conk sandalwood hard soap. It had a mild aroma. But, I'm all about the Proraso Red (Sandalwood) now after changing from Proraso Green.

I started with soap just to try it, but cream is just easier for me.

I'm currently using an EJ DE89 with Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellows (Russian) and I don't think I can get any smoother - a little unforgiving coming from a Merkur 34C with the plain Green (Indian) 7 O'Clocks - which was my first regular setup after the sampler.

It takes me about 15 minutes to shave and I do a bbs shave. Mitchell's Wool Fat soap or CO Bigelow in a tube is very slick. I had the long handle Merkur but, after two years of use, the handle post pulled out of the head ! That's the part the handle screws on to. I read about that happening to others so beware. I have the merkur adjustable now. I like experimenting with blade sample packs and have found Feather too sharp for me.
