LSU almost always leads in TOP..for the same reason..aTm and AU will never be conference leaders in defense.
chavis ran a elementary defense..it was very simple..read and react. Our earlier defenses were much better.
also..we create no turnovers since cooper left. Our Dline gets zero pressure.
it will be interesting to see how steele uses personnel. I am guessing chavis had players out of position.

like whom?
chavis did run a pretty simple scheme that kept everything in front of guys and contained the edge, no doubt
it appears that steele runs a pressure-oriented system that is prone to give up big plays pretty often, so his scheme is a 180 from chavis in most respects. more sacks, more turnovers, more busted plays. but i don't see who is out of position (or was during chavis's tenure)
also that soft scheme did drive me nuts at times but it is the only D that consistently stops the HUNH in CFB. pressure schemes get WORKED by the spread-option HUNH (the offense is basically designed to stop pressure-based systems by using the option and the speed)
