How good were we though? This entire ordeal makes me consider new things.
For one, we have had poor prioritization of needs, defensively. In 2012 we take 7 linebackers? Followed and proceeded by lackluster classes at the position. This year we need DL, and only had one committed?
Second, how much does our ball control offense help our defensive stats? Probably a lot.
Third, how complex was the scheme? It took chavis an average of three years to prepare linebackers.

I meant on-field coaching will be better with our position coaches than what Clemson had.

Completely agree.

Chavis, from what we have heard, had a very simple scheme. I'm not sure what kind of complexity is in Steele's.
I don't think we're arguing, I think we're agreeing, but I'm not positive

you said it big ed..
LSU almost always leads in TOP..for the same reason..aTm and AU will never be conference leaders in defense.
chavis ran a elementary defense..it was very simple..read and react. Our earlier defenses were much better.
also..we create no turnovers since cooper left. Our Dline gets zero pressure.
it will be interesting to see how steele uses personnel. I am guessing chavis had players out of position.

It's almost as if there was a lack of communication or direction in recruiting for defense. I don't know if that's on Chavis or Miles more. Maybe it's on Frank. Hopefully it gets cleaned up...too late for this year?

here's one thing I've touched on, yes we've been recruiting well if you look at overall rankings, but the overall organization of it has been odd and has resulted in uneven classes. I think this is where Chief's overall detachment from the recruiting process really hurt. No overall plan from the top results in disorganization. Steele is supposed to be very good in this department.
