There was no head coach pressuring him to stay?

There was no agent using LSU to get a raise?

There was no head coaching vacancy calling his name?

He wasnt being offered more money for another DC position?

The NFL wasnt calling?

He had no family that didnt like the idea of moving to BR?

He fricking coached in the Super Bowl as a DC!!

I heard someone on the radio say that Pendergast wasn't not a "culture fit" with Miles, and I tend to believe that angle.

He wasn't offered, and wasn't given a timetable on when an offer would be extended, so he retracted his interest in the job.

I think the budget for the position was low. Only explanation for this hire.

And was fired after the game. That's weird right? After that he was DC for the Chiefs for just one season. Weird.

The story I heard was that he has an ailing parent and wanted to stay on the west coast.

Serious question...where will Pendergast coach next? I mean, if he's such a huge defensive 'get', which high profile pro or college programs are currently vying for his services?

I in no way shape or form think that Steele is an awesome hire as LSU's DC (far from it...it is, in fact, embarassing)...however, I remember the name 'Tenuta' and realize that sometimes the one that got away got away because they weren't a right fit (for many programs).

If Pendergast has people fighting over signing him, then shame on us. If he's...not in such demand, maybe there's a reason.
