26" is easier to store, raise and swing in a blind. You don't lose much to a 28", and what slight amount you do lose can be made up with the right choke. These are the reasons I have a 26".

28" has a little better sight radius, and, as other said, isn't as loud in a blind (like that matters when hunting).

I think the longer barrels were designed to work with older powder back in the day. Take this as you want, but in college I worked at a store that sold guns and I had a gun rep tell me with the new ammo, your powder if burnt at the 26" mark. Nothing wrong with a longer barrel, but now days, the extra inches will not gain any distance.
