re: Thoughts on duck hunting these days

I don't have any other option other than hunting public land right now. I love working birds. Quite often I question my decision not to shoot at passing ducks because I feel they're too far and I try working them back. But I'd rather a higher quality shot. It's frustrating to be working birds and see them start circling, but they get over another group of hunters and they sky blast and there goes my birds(they typically only succeed in scaring them off, not killing any). I attribute my problem to me being limited by how far away from the launch I'm able to go because I'm in a kayak. It's going to force me to work harder to find that spot that isn't as easy to the paddlers but not as attractive to the boaters. Which, I honestly love the challenge. I didn't prepare properly this past season and I learned a good but about the area. More scouting next summer!
