Would love to get opinions. My daughter is only about 20 months old but is sneaky tablet savvy. Which tablet would you suggest out of those 2 or feel free to suggest your own?

Do you use iPads/iPhones in the family?

If so, ipad Mini for the sharing of apps, seamless experience, and ability to stream from iTunes with home sharing.

My mom has a Kindle Fire and my son will play with it, but it has limited app availability and not as smooth as the iPad.

I'd also go with which you want. She won't be using it all the time. Our iPad is effectively my son's, but my wife still uses it 50%+ of the time.

Be careful with that baby's use of the ipad(electronics in general) it was hell taking it away from him when he was four because he had grown a serious addiction to it. He knows now that he only gets to "play iPad" on long road trips.

Why not try a leappad? The educational apps are pretty good and it forces them to learn and use a stylus as well as touch. You can log in to see their progress and mastery of skills in reading, writing, etc. An added bonus is that because the games are geared towards learning, a young child's attention span won't have them staying on it for long stretches of time but it's just fun enough to keep them focused on a lesson long enough to build skills (if that makes sense)

Kindle Fire with Free Time is what my kids play with.

Free time allows limits on how muc time and when that time can be used.

Amazon also has a daily free app that lets you load up on some good kid apps.

IPad is strictly for adults.

Kindle Fire HD Kids also comes with a 2 year replacement warranty, no questions asked. My 2 kids both got one of these and play it all the time.

My two younger cousins have been greatly ruined by the iPad generation. Kids don't even know how to play cards these days. I asked my cousin if he wanted to play go fish, and he was confused when I started dealing cards because he had only played on the computer...

Yeah. I know. Get off my lawn.

If you have Amazon Prime, the Kindle allows you to download prime movies to your actual device for free, which allows you to watch them when you are not connected to wifi etc. That is a wonderful benefit for when you travel. Last time I checked, the kindle was the only device that allowed you to download the free prime movies to your actual device. Plus we bought ours for $139 for 16 gm around Christmas, so if you don't like it, you haven't really broken the bank.
