I know it's a brand. Those are the URC remotes I was referring to in my post. The programmable by PC ones are only supposed to be sold by and programmed by dealers. JP1 is a type of remote and not a specific model. The model prefixes are typically MX.

Some URC models used to be favored in the JP1 world, but like I said, the RCA is one of the current go-to ones. There is a list here:

I don't know anything about the restrictions you described, but the RCA and others are readily available at retail (I bought my first RCA at Walgreens a few years ago), and in any case, once you have the remote, you can do whatever you want with it.
Anyway, my point was, if you wanted to get into programmable remotes and liberate yourself from Logitech, it's JP1 you should look for.
