an 870 is like a black iron pot, never clean it 
I shoved a shell in the mag backwards one day when the shooting was hot. I field stripped it to get the shell out. The firing pin and mechanism all fell in the rice field at my feet. I pulled it out of the muck, rinsed it in the pond water, reassembled and started shooting for another hour. I don;t know how else to try to kill an 870
