It's irrelevant for 1 game sample sizes, and it certainly can be skewed by how good a teams bench may be, but it can be helpful with a large enough sample size.

The elite guys' teams are always better with that player on the court over a large sample, that's certainly not an accident, obviously.

Wrong. If its irrelevant for 1 game sample sizes, its irrelevant for the year. It just has such a high confidence interval that it isn't particularly useful.
