It's not a good indicator of a player's performance.

from what I gather, if it shows harden >>> AD it is a great indicator. if it doesn't then it's terrible

It's irrelevant for 1 game sample sizes, and it certainly can be skewed by how good a teams bench may be, but it can be helpful with a large enough sample size.

The elite guys' teams are always better with that player on the court over a large sample, that's certainly not an accident, obviously.

Probably more indicative of the coach coaching to favorable match-ups if you really think about it.

I understand the stat and (I think), because it's so widely used, I assume I'm missing something. Rivers only had a +/- of -1 last night. So 2 more points from us while he was in the game means he would've been in the +. From what I could see, he played a huge part in letting our 1 point deficit balloon in a hurry.

It's not perfect but it in conjuncture with minutes played is a better indicator of a player's contribution to their team than W/L record. You can't really help how the team plays when you are on the bench.

I just let my eyes do the work for individual players. If a player looks like they're playing like crap, they probably are. The main stats I look at are FG%, turnovers, and rebounds. But usually I look at those to measure team performance. If you do better than the other team in all of those, you should win the game pretty handily
