You are right on this. I should not have used a month as an example. How about considering how fast things change on the Coaching Changes board. People are checking that board hourly or more for news as I am sure you can tell by the number of users online. I would help us to know if something is really news or a post that may be an hour or two old. I am not complaining, just trying to help everyone out.

That would make it even worse...

For the boards that are turning over at a high rate, then they would all have the same day, the day of, as the top-20 would likely be changing quickly.

Also, if there was that much going on, then the info that stays on the first page is likely the most relevant and has the most up to date info in it, thus there would be no need for a new thread.
