Chavis is 58. He has laid many eggs at LSU, though he is consistent overall. I like him and would like to keep him just for continuity and because the players know his system.

But ...

Depending on hire, LSU could have a BETTER defense next year with someone else.

Talent everywhere. Who would not want to coach that?

Ball control offense - Takes pressure off of the defense.

Money - pay $1.5 million and get whoever you want.

LSU will be fine IF Les makes a great hire and rights this ship.

Yesterday was a disaster in every respect. But, it is time to move on.

Or

LSU and Les Miles could completely botch the hire

Which do you think is most likely?

I'm on the Clancy Pendergast train. he's also worked with Ed O, so O would join the staff immediately

Les won't be making that decision alone.

sorry if I'm not very confident in Alleva after he let a top flight DC go to a division rival

Yeah, my biggest problem here is letting Chavis go to A&M. They get better and we get worse. He will definitely stabilize that defense, at the very least. That is all that they need.

Well considering Les' last two coordinator hires were Cam Cameron and John Chavis it's more likely Les is going to make a home run hire.

Not realistic.

He's sitting in a spot where his next move is as HC in the SEC. And, he doesn't need to make another move to prove himself.

We aren't getting Coach Oregeron as a DL coach. Now, we might get him as DC with an Assistant Head Coach title. But, he's never been a DC and that would be risky.

I honestly wouldn't mind Les taking that risk.

Les hasn't really taken a risk since 2007 so it'd be a nice change

If we get someone like that we'll be fine.

I would say it's more 50/50.

You'd be wrong

You and your fellow Aggies are nutting all over yourselves over Les' last DC hire. No reason to believe Les can't get another good DC

So we throw 1.5 million at someone else, and hope they work out. All this right in the middle of recruiting. If you are willing to pay a potential unproven 1.5 million initially why not pay chavis. People need to be honest with the themshelves, do you think Miles will really get someone better than chavis.
