You do realize this is the exception rather than the rule, right?

You're a head coach with a certain philosophy, but you cant hire your own coordinators to align with that philosophy? I mean, why don't we just give him a clause that says the head coach can't fire him?

I'm no fan of Alleva, but if this is true, then I support his decision not to budge.

Yes I realize this is not standard. All I'm saying is that assuming Miles really wants Chief to remain on staff and Chief really wants to remain at LSU you don't let him walk on a clause that you are unlikely to invoke.

I seriously doubt that Miles will be shown the door in the next four years. If he was to leave in the next four years on his own then you work with the next coach to retain Chief ( assuming he is still fielding top notch defenses). If a homerun hire won't come b/c Chief has to remain then terminate his contract then.

If the program were to decline to the point where it was necessary to terminate Miles then you clean house with the staff as well.
