Will the "true Saints fans" explain why winning today is important?

Since I'm not a "true fan", would someone please logically explain why winning today was of any importance?

For me, picking 7 or 8 vs 13 or 14 EVERY round seemed to be the smarter choice. It would benefit the organization moving forward. I thought I was thinking as a true Saints fan, but apparently I'm not.

Anyone care to explain why? Save the "one player doesn't make a difference" as I have already explained we get a better pick every round.

I get why the coaches and players wanted to win.
They have jobs to think about.

But fans?

Because we suck at drafting so I'd rather win than lose. It's not like the win costed us 15 spots.

ETA: And let's not act like your side hadn't been using the "true fan" stuff as well.

From a 'fan' standpoint, defeating the worst team in the NFL by 1 point in a game being played for drafting position is the worst possible scenario. Seriously, winning proved what? We are not the worst team in football?

I'm not questioning anyone's "fanhood" who wanted a loss today... shite, I'd have been okay with a loss myself. It's the complaing about a win that is sad. The Saints had nothing to play for and went on the road against a team that always plays us tough and got the win. Can't fault the players and coaches for actually succeeding at their job today. In fact, I'm happy for them and the win.

To quote Herm Edwards "You play to win the game! You don't play to just play. You play to win!" and that's why winning today is important...

Why is it relevant. None of us play or have any impact on the game. So who gives a shite what any of us think.

Are you saying we tank every season and just pick early every year?

The Raiders and Patriots are proof that the draft isn't exactly a lock that if you draft early you get better players.

The point of the game is to win.

And the players and coaches playing for their futures. Tank will never be mentioned by coaches or players in an NFL locker room.

Because they have that mindset, I have no reason to root against the team. I want what they want. And they want to win.

It's that easy to me. I get it if you're of the opposite opinion. I'm not going to call you a non true fan.

Because the players are playing for their fricking job. It's a moot point. As a fan, I hoped we lost.

Winning today was important because today, Tampa Bay reminded me of pre 1986 Saints and I never want to go back to that haplessness.
