How little is he? Would a 20ga semi be out of the question? That's something he would use for the rest of his life. I don't think there are very many middle of the road 410s made. I started with the crack barrel, probably like most people here.

He's 8. I have thought about the Youth 20 but i'm no expert. He is not strong enough to hold up a full length gun. I have tried.

Mossberg makes a 410 simi - youth that you can add a butt extension (comes with gun) that makes it a regular youth gun. It's a pump but comes with a long plug which makes it a single shot. When your comfortable - cut the plug. My nephew loves his and has shot many a squirrel. He's a very small so a 20ga wasn't an option.
