In all seriousness, one of the first jobs of the US Navy was defending shipping lanes against pirates off the Barbary Coast. This is not out of the ordinary, just piracy hasn't exactly been big.

I thought the actors playing the Somali pirates were outstanding as well. Hanks will get all the accolades, but these guys outperformed him in my mind.
