You should go over there and help those poor people in Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan. You'd fit right in.
I'd grow a beard and have more than a passing familiarity with the Koran, though, brother.

How sad it must be to base someone's innocence on their zip code. How sad it must be to lump the beliefs of 100 million people into the same group as their governments. I know how you're responsible for all those murders in central Louisiana too and how much you support the IRS's targeting of political opponents.

I had a friend (Fidel) when I was a teenager that was a bit older than me. His Dad had been a "hero of The Revolution" and fought alongside Castro. His Father named him Fidel in honor of Castro. When Fidel went "Full Soviet" and betrayed the Cuban People and doubled down on Batista's terror, his Father (and other family members) were thrown in prison and tortured. The Father was eventually executed.
I want the Cuban people's 50 year (or more) nightmare to be over. Let's hope this is somehow a step in that direction.

I'd argue with you on the many ( way too many to count) areas where you show alarming historical ignorance, engage in a veritable cornucopia of worn-out and discredited clichés, and the most simplistic brand of knee-jerk Anti-American dipshittery, but that might mar our new "besties" status and screw up our hiking trip. And I have already bought my tent.
So let me just say...keep being YOU, BV.

The difference between us and them - we view harsh interrogation as a necessary evil and agonize over collateral damage and other anomolies such as Dilawar (My Lai, etc.) terrible things and strive to prevent future recurrences.
Our enemies, on the other hand, celebrate torture, death of innocents and raise them to high art.
So, there's that...

By enabling, enriching and legitimizing the Castros?
Unlikely. This will just make the next Junta stronger.

The real difference is we have a bi-polar govt. One pole is heartless, and the other pole is disconnected from human reality. In Cuber, there's only one pole which is very attractive to those disconnected from human reality.

Can you outline the things that have substantially changed re: "the regime in Cuba" since the end of the Cold War?

I'm sure the naïve ignorance is blissful to think so many think the exact same way and are all worthy of our "necessary evil."
Oh and just for a touch of irony, how many of those terrorists groups have been funded by the government you worship and work for? Every time you get a check you're funding the group of people you hate. Delicious.

The real problem is Cuba doesnt have trillions of dollars to buy our debt and cant mass produce things on the cheap like the Communist in China who made Cubans look like saints during the revolution and still treat many in their country like crap.

That's all we have here since we've folded our flush upon learning they have a pair, deuce high.

And even longer than that. I had a close friend who was an army interpreter in Vietnam and his description of our interrogation techniques was more than chilling. He never got rid of those demons and committed suicide about ten years after he came back.

shite that never happened. Same with POWs trying to sneak messages to Hanoi Jane and then she turned them over to the NVA. Never happened.
That's assuming we didn't put NVA POWs into small rooms with stinging insects. In that case, maybe you're right.

You have that backwards - the taxpayers are funding our enemies under your scenario.

I never said Dilawar was our enemy - that was just very, very unfortunate. It happens in war and we try to do everything we can to prevent it.
Same thing with My Lai - Calley and his guys are used to skewer every man and woman in a U.S. uniform, but people forget Hugh Thompson for 30 years.
But our soldiers who end up at the tender mercy of our enemies would GLADLY trade places with the worst of our prisoners - that's just a fact.
But, I guess the difference between you and I is - I've been there, done that and can speak with some experience on these issues.
I'm not sure why I even continue to debate these things with you - aren't you a 9/11 truther and therefore, cognitively living in another dimension for purposes of this particular discussion?

Also, I wasn't commenting on Dilawar, I was commenting on this:
quote:As if the beliefs of these people are homogeneous. Breitbart should be right up your alley, maybe we should kill this guy and his family too. You know, "necessary evil" and all.
You should go over there and help those poor people in Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan
quote:Exactly, you've proven you will follow the erroneous leadership of the federal government for a cut of the payoff.
I guess the difference between you and I is - I've been there
quote:Absolutely not, but that would certainly be a good diversion right now and it wouldn't be surprising because if history has shown us anything, it is that people who support free trade and don't support unnecessary war are conspiracy-theorist-loons; just look at Jefferson.
