Again, I understand that it's a bad thing to define racism down like this. It's just not the worst thing. The worst thing is that my South Louisiana town, like so many parts of the South, is falling apart and a big reason for that is that blacks and whites distrust each other. Instead of getting better, it is getting worse. I can't do much about it, but I can at least stop acting in ways that seem racist to my neighbors when it doesn't hurt me to do so.
