We aren't debating legalizing opiates for recreational use. If we were, I would insist on the same type of spot test for them.
The only instant assay that we have is for alcohol because it is the only legal intoxicant available. Because consuming it renders you unsuitable to perform certain tasks, such as driving, it is necessary to have a way to tell if someone is currently drunk and how drunk they are.
I maintain that the same thing needs to be readily available for pot. Until then, I cannot support legalizing it.
I truthfully don't care if a bunch of dipshit twenty somethings want to sit around their apartment and get stoned. For me, this isn't a philosophical argument about freedom and government control. It is a practical matter of needing a simple way to tell if someone is stoned and how stoned they are before pot gets legalized.
