This is how I see it. Cuban knew the Mavs had no chance to compete in the West with Nelson at PG, so this at least gives them a chance. Obviously not having a bench will hurt, but they were not winning the West as it stood. There's no way this isn't a positive for the Mavs.

Exactly. It's a net positive and anyone who thinks otherwise is just plain crazy.
