That message is no different from what it was 100 years ago or 1,000 years ago. While homosexuality is the sin du jour, you can say the same thing to an alcoholic, chronic liar, adulterer, or any other person, really.

People are leaving the faith because it doesn't offer anything of value. The message is not about Jesus Christ saving people from their sin; it's about how people are basically good people who should just love themselves because God loves them just the way they are. If that's true, why does it matter if you go to church or read your Bible or obey any of those laws? What such a message does is ultimately turn people into Deists, which is what you find today where so many people believe in God but fewer and fewer people go to church.

It's certainly not a condemnation of homosexuality that is the problem, since homosexuality has been condemned for 2,000 years in the Church, and even longer than that in Judaism.
