They know what he means...but it's easier to nitpick at his poor wording (it was poor) than to actually address his point.

The issue isn't really racism, but group bias. Race is just one of many ways people are grouped together for good or for bad. Some like or hate others based on race, gender, religion, sports fandom, what TV shows they watch, or any other shallow reason that makes people focus on differences or similarities.

Even if everyone was suddenly "color blind" (won't happen), there would be some other reason why people discriminate or treat others differently.
