I've never hosted a party. I just provided the link to their limited online store so people can circumvent the whole "trunk" experience.
Here is something I found online:
One business that appears to be weathering the recession is the home based sales of women’s and children's clothing. At first glance one suburban street in Oldham County doesn't look like Rodeo Drive. But the dress outside Beth Wilmes' house means that a designer women's clothing show is happening inside. The clothes range from $39 to $138. Each show brings in about $1800 in sales. With two to three shows each week and factoring in Beth's 25% commission, she's grossing more than $50,000 per year!
For some women, it's a part time hobby. But for Beth and Ashley Coleman, the home based clothing business is a full time job, and more.
Ashley invested about $2,500 for a trunk of the Matilda Jane line of girls' and women's clothing. That's in addition to marketing and office expenses. She made the move from commercial furniture sales after her husband suffered a spinal cord injury, paralyzing him.
“This opportunity opened up and I was allowed to still give that care to my husband during a very difficult time in his life but supplement our income and be a part of my daughter's life at such a young age. So for me, Matilda Jane has been a blessing all around,” says Ashley.
Ashley says in this economy, moms like that the clothing can be adjusted as the girls grow. One outfit can be worn for years.
Ashley hopes to make between $30,000 and $40,000 in her first full year.
