the book was one of my favs and I don't want this to ruin it should we skip?

My wife and daughter were both squirming at the brutality inflicted upon Louis but I suspect IRL it was far worse than what was depicted on the screen.

All I will pass on is that I'm glad I saw this movie and it didn't diminish my admiration for the book in the least.

Finally saw it today. Never been so apprehensive of a movie since I hold the book in such high regard. I almost avoided it all together. I went in with very tempered expectations. I felt it was as good as it could be as a two hour movie. Glad I went.
