Not sure about the fitbit but I have the garmin vivofit and I love it. It displays steps, calories burned, miles and time. If I'm not mistaken with the fitbit flex you have to view the app to see your progress. The vivofit displays directly on the watch.

Thanks. Will compare reviews on these. Do you know what retail stores might carry these items?
