1. No dominant player on the national circuit
2. stagnant wages (golf is an expensive sport to play)
3. cut backs on courses due to budget constraints leading to less enjoyable experiences for casual players
4. the average working american that can afford golf is working more hours than they were before the Great Recession, which means less hours for golfing.

This is the biggie.

You have to be able to devote at least 3.5 hours for 18 holes.
