I've had the Boss ME-50 for about 7 years now and never had a problem with it. Does more than I need and then some. The Ibanez Tube Screamer pedal is solid too, but only if you're looking for that warm tube sound.

Used one of these for a while. Never used all of its functionality, but you could get some pretty far out sounds by using the delay pedal on the ME-50, running through a stand alone delay pedal running through a loop station. I would say just get one, you'll get some mileage out of it.
