By major mental illness, I don't mean the normal "all women are crazy" (they are) b.s. I mean seeing things, paranoia, OCD, hoarding, etc.
I think in most cases I would take physical illness.

Really depends on the physical illness. Are we talking someone who needs to be bathed, dressed, taken to the bathroom?

Obviously depends on the major illness.
Moderate OCD would be better than plenty of physical things, as would mild hoarding.

I've had a SO with major depression issues. After you talk someone out of suicide, it changes you inside.

It really depends on what the illnesses are.

Physical.
I've dealt with mental illness in a relationship before. No way in hell do I wish that burden on anyone.

My SO... RIP... had severe avoidance issues that were so bad she wouldn't even take care of herself. That led to our divorce and ultimately her early death at age 49.
So I vote mental issues are more difficult.
