They took Disney's "let's kill opff the parent/parents" strategy and buried it. They pulled off finding true love, the incredible pain of infertility, realization that your dreams get buried by debt, and the even worse pain of losing your greatest love in 5 minutes of movie excellence.

This scene should be taught to first year students of every film school. This is how you make an audience connect to a character. One short scene and you're invested. Too many directors try to force empathy on the audience.

It was amazing that they could tell such a complete back story fraught with so much emotion in so short a time. It was truly a perfect cinematic moment.
